In August 2014, ONEArmenia partnered with the Homeland Development Initiative Foundation (HDIF) to crowdfund a portion of the operational costs of a wheat-themed festival in the rural town of Vardenis, Armenia. The Golden Wheat Festival took place on September 20th, 2014. Seven local farmers and artisans sold traditional foods and handmade crafts that were all made of locally-grown wheat or inspired by it. The festival attracted about 2,000 guests from all over the country who spent the day eating great food (from lavash to harissa to gata) and buying unique handmade products sold by local small business owners. Local traditional musicians and dancers performed throughout the day, and transportation at the festival site was provided by local drivers. The idea was to activate as many skilled people in the area as possible and to present Vardenis as a desirable place for tourists to visit and explore.
