In the summer of 2013, 1A partnered with Sahman NGO to crowdfund for the construction of four greenhouses in the backyards of four homes in Berkaber (Armenian for “plentiful”), a border village in the Tavush Province.

We exceeded our funding goal and used the extra money to repair a fifth, pre-existing greenhouse. In 2014, the greenhouses had already produced their first harvest of tomatoes and cucumbers that were not only incorporated into the village’s meals, but were sold by the kilogram at the Ijevan market. This has created a source of income for four families and given an entire community access and incentive to farm in their backyards so that their village can be plentiful again. Hear what local people had to say about their new greenhouses.
